New Homes sales up in December

“In December, new-home sales rose 2.9 percent from November’s pace — defying analysts’ expectations for sales to go down last month.”

The report from the U.S. Department of Commerce was released this morning. This is an interesting contrast to the National Association of Realtor report, where existing home sales fell in December. National home sales were up again in 2005, 4.2% continuing the trend of the past few years. Speculators expect the market to level out some in 2006. The spring market should give us a taste for what will be this year.
