Utility rates may go up again in July. The proposed rates are increases of approximately 8.9% for gas, 4.6% for water and 13.2% for sewer service. The spike in sewer rates is to cover the various projects needed in and around Charlottesville.
Legal Notice from the Daily Progress about the possible rate changes.
“Legal Notice Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held pursuant to section 15.2-107 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, by the Charlottesville City Council on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 605 East Main Street, Charlottesville, Virginia, with respect to the proposed adoption by the City Council of an ordinance to establish the rates for utility services (gas, water and sewer), effective July 1, 2007. The percent changes for the proposed rates are increases of approximately 8.9% for gas, 4.6% for water and 13.2% for sewer service. The City is granted authority to set rates for the above-mentioned utility services by Virginia Code Sections 15.2-2109 (gas), 15.2-2143 (water) and 15.2-2119 (sewer), as well as Charter Sections 46 and 14 (Eighteenth). The proposed ordinance and information concerning the documentation and justification for the proposed utility rates are available for examination in the Finance Department in City Hall, Room A114.”
